Sisterhood of Ezra-Habonim, the Niles Township Jewish Cong., 4500 Dempster, Skokie, offers a fun afternoon of lunch and an Israeli movie, starting at 11:30 am. “The Band’s Visit” is a comedy but also a serious film about eight Egyptian musicians who comprise the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra. They arrive, by mistake, in a small town in Israel’s Negev Desert. Their booking was set for a different city, and with no transportation out of the town or any hotels to stay at, the band settles at a restaurant which offers them lodging. Overcoming ethnic barriers, the Egyptians find diversion and companionship with the Israelis through a pervading undercurrent of shared melancholy. Fee for the afternoon is $20 for Sisterhood members and $25 for non-members and at-the-door. For reservations or for further information, contact the synagogue office at 847-675-4141 or go the website at www.ehnt.org
