Harvey, meet Shlomo

Joseph Aaron

He looks a lot like Harvey Weinstein. But he’s a very different kind of pig.

We’ll get to him in a moment. But first let us learn a Jewish lesson, shall we.

The lesson is not to always assume the worst. Jews are very good at, very quick to assume the worst about everyone and everything.

The danger of that is that you assume everyone is out to get you when they are not. The danger in that is that you always think things are bad for the Jews when the crystal clear truth is that things have never been better for the Jews.

Let us start in Kansas. We just celebrated the joyous Jewish holiday of Sukkot, a time when Jews build temporary dwellings outside and eat in them. At Kansas State University, the campus Hillel and KSU’s Department of Housing and Dining Services put up a sukkah next to a residential complex at the university for use by Jewish community members.

Sukkot began Wednesday. On Friday night, the sukkah was destroyed by what many Jewish websites said was “an apparent act of anti-Semitic vandalism.” Glen Buickerood — a graduate student at KSU who helped organize the Sukkot initiative — was one of the first to see that the structure was gone. He found it 40 yards away from its original location, bent, destroyed and wrapped around a car.

As a result, many Jews just assumed it was the victim of Jew haters. That’s pretty much what Jews assume about anything and everything. “I believe a group of individuals recognized that the Sukkah was affiliated with Judaism and the Sukkot holiday,” Buickerood said. “This was a direct response to what the Sukkah stands for and represents.” Hillel International meanwhile called the “anti-Semitic vandalism … hurtful and disrespectful to those who have come together to celebrate the holiday of Sukkot.”

Here’s the thing. It had nothing to do with anti-Semitism. What actually happened was that the sukkah was damaged by severe weather. Yes, weather. The Kansas State University Police Department determined that the damage to the sukkah was caused by thunderstorms, heavy rain and high winds. Witnesses told police they saw the sukkah tumbling in the wind during a storm, with no people around it.

But why should Jews bother to first find out the facts, when they can feel comfortable by jumping to the conclusion that it was anti-Semites out to ruin Sukkot.

And then we have UNESCO. In yet another of his very many unthinking and destructive actions, Trump out of the blue announced that the United States would be withdrawing from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. We were doing that supposedly because of its anti-Israel bias. Truth is, as all truths are with Trump, it was because of money.

Indeed while the State Department statement attributed the move to “the need for fundamental reform in the organization, and continuing anti-Israel bias at UNESCO,” the statement went on to tellingly note that the move “reflects U.S. concerns with mounting arrears at UNESCO.”

Seems that six years ago, the United States cut off more than $80 million a year it was giving to UNESCO, in reprisal for its acceptance of Palestine as a member. The Obama administration — yes the Obama administration — said it cut funds because a 1990s-era law prohibits U.S. funding for any U.N. agencies recognizing Palestine as a state.

As a result of U.S. funding cuts, U.S. arrears in membership fees have been swelling each year, surpassing $500 million that’s owed to UNESCO. The decision to withdraw was a desire to stop the growing debt.

But just as soon as Trump announced his plans, his ‘Mini Me’ Bibi, — ever gullible and believing Trump’s baloney that it was all about anti-Israel bias, because Bibi believes everything is about anti-Israel bias, — announced that Israel too will leave UNESCO. Bibi, in a statement, instructed his foreign ministry to “prepare Israel’s withdrawal from UNESCO in parallel with the United States.” Trump see, Bibi do.

Look, UNESCO is no angel. It has passed a lot of anti-Israel resolutions and done a lot of crazy things. But for a Jewish people so against boycotts, I do not understand why Bibi is so quick to boycott any place he doesn’t like, deprive Israel of a voice in places where its voice very much needs to be heard.

And guess what. Just days after Trumpbibi’s withdrawal statements, France’s former culture minister, Audrey Azoulay, was elected to head UNESCO, becoming the first Jew at the helm of the UN agency.

Yes, Jew. Indeed France presented Azoulay as a consensus figure who could mend fences within the organization and soothe tensions caused by recent resolutions against Israel. But Israel had already stormed off in a childish huff.

Okay, let’s get to the Harvey Weinstein act alike. But before we do, last week I noted how many Jews have covered themselves with dishonor in this whole affair. Well this week brought us two more. First was fashion designer Donna Karan who said women bring harassment on themselves by how they dress, how they ‘present themselves to the world,’ basically saying women are asking for and deserving of being raped and made to watch Harvey shower and play with his bris.

Then we had Jewish molester himself Woody Allen having the super chutzpah to say he was “sad” for Harvey Weinstein and express hope that the scandal would not lead to a “witch hunt atmosphere.” “You don’t want it to lead to a witch hunt atmosphere, a Salem atmosphere, where every guy in an office who winks at a woman is suddenly having to call a lawyer to defend himself. That’s not right either.”

Harvey has been accused of doing many things to many women, but winking at them is not one of them. He did far worse, just like Allen himself. Allen was accused of abusing his daughter Dylan Farrow shortly after his separation from wife Mia Farrow. She divorced Allen after learning of his affair with her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn, whom Allen married.

Oh, by the way, Weinstein helped to revive Allen’s career after the alleged sex crimes came to light. He produced several of Allen’s films.

But let’s move on from Jews and sexual depravity, and focus on Jews and hate. Pure unadulterated Jewish hate. Hate expressed by one Jew for so many other Jews.

The hate that recently came from the big fat mouth of one Reb Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz, who is an immensely wealthy man and so a very big macher in the super Orthodox world. He looks a lot like Harvey Weinstein, but what he did during Sukkot shows his problem is not his inability to control his bris, but rather his vile hatred for Jews who are not just like him.

Rechnitz came to Jerusalem to speak at the most prestigious yeshiva in the world. Not because he’s a Torah scholar, but because he’s fabulously wealthy. But what he said showed just how poor his miserable soul is.

Rechnitz began his speech at the super Orthodox yeshiva by blasting Jews — Orthodox Jews. But Orthodox Jews who are not Orthodox like him and those at the yeshiva, so are not really Jews evidently. He strongly condemned members of Open Orthodoxy, who are Orthodox Jews but ones open to modernity, to diversity, to tolerance, to acceptance.

That is a no no. “What is so dangerous about them is that they have hijacked our name and description,” said Rechnitz. “The definition of Orthodox is traditional. Non-changing. Keeping everything the same.” And so the members of Open Orthodoxy are tricksters, deceiving traditional Jews who, he said, “can be fooled into a Reform Judaism that misleads all by its devious name.”

So now these Open Orthodox Jews are Reform Jews because they are not Orthodox like him. And so, he says, they are devious. He added, “Call it whatever you want, but this religion can be best described with the famous words of the president of the United States: Fake News. It’s all fake. There is nothing Orthodox about them, and the only thing that’s open are their businesses on Yom Kippur and Shabbos. The concept of Open Orthodoxy has to be eradicated like a cancer.”

Did you catch how he says “this religion,” meaning he doesn’t consider Open Orthodox Jews as members of the Jewish religion.

Take in all that hateful insane hate, and remember this was a guy standing in Jerusalem in front of a yeshiva saying this not only about other Jews, but about other Orthodox Jews. So deep is his hate, so Weinsteinesque is he with his words.

But that was actually far from the worst of it. That was reserved for, gasp, liberal Jews, who we all know are the worst kind of Jews there are. He said that he “wouldn’t be surprised if I was told that in 1948, when the State of Israel was established, the entire population didn’t contain more than five liberal leftists.” But today, alas, there is a new ‘tolerant’ Israel, Rechnitz vomited out.

“There is no doubt in my mind that if the trial of Adolf Eichmann, who was responsible for murdering millions of Jews, had occurred in the Israel of today, he would have surely been acquitted. After all, he was just following orders. It was nothing personal. And we are indeed a tolerant people.”

Did you hear what Reb Shlomo said? He said that Adolf Eichmann, mastermind of Auschwitz, would be found not guilty in the Israel of today. That leftist Jews are so bad they would be understanding of Nazis. They are so bad because they believe in things like the right of all Jews to pray at the Western Wall as they wish. How dare they?

Harvey Weinstein is disgusting, a disgrace to Judaism. So, in his way, is Reb Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz, who so hates Jews he slams even those who are like him but not exactly like him, and says Israel is crawling today with Nazi lovers because there are Jews in Israel who believe in diversity, tolerance and acceptance.

Harvey’s actions made me want to throw up. Rechnitz’s words make me want to do the same. Two Jewish pigs.
